The metaphorical sweaty bodyguard of Nickelodeon promotion forcefully exerts its presence these days- and does so in stark contrast to the show's uber-amiable wholesomeness. But as these cartoons evolved, so did their marketing practices- the congenial "SpongeBob SquarePants" came with a prepackaged saturation plan.

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE PATRICK TV

In the early 90s, animators like John K, creator of "Ren and Stimpy", fled the toy commercial wasteland of network TV animation and found a niche on the fledgling Nickelodeon network, whose novel idea of airing creator-based cartoons led to the successful first wave of the network's original animated programming. I'll be the first to admit that I don't understand the SpongeBob phenomenon. He excitedly waved his hands, but as we moved toward him, a hulking teamster forcibly intervened, crossed his arms, and shook his head: "We work for tips." When the kids wandered off, we stepped up, thinking it might be fun to take a quick picture with the famously affable pineapple-dwelling milquetoast.

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE PATRICK SERIES

Being unemployed most of the time fits Patrick’s lifestyle, and it brings a strange balance to the series as he’s the complete opposite of the always hard-working SpongeBob.As we walked idly through Midtown Manhattan this summer, my girlfriend and I came across a foam-suited SpongeBob posing for pictures with a small group of children. Ultimately, Patrick’s talent is doing absolutely nothing and being the laziest of all citizens of Bikini Bottom, to the point where he once got an award for “ doing absolutely nothing longer than anyone else”. Patrick has also worked for the Chum Bucket, although briefly, such as when he was the (last minute) fry cook in “The Fry Cook Games” and later advertising director in “Chum Bucket Supreme”. Other jobs Patrick has had are lemonade seller (as seen in the video game Lights, Camera, Pants!), inventor (though that hasn’t always turned out well), king of Bikini Bottom, jellyfisher, door-to-door salesman (along with SpongeBob, when they sold chocolate bars), security guard, and executive, though that one was by accident when he put on a tie and glasses so he could get a Krabby Patty, but the executives took him with them back to their offices and he played along for a while after learning he could be sent to jail for pretending to work there. Patrick has worked at the Krusty Krab many times and in different roles – from janitor, to assistant manager, to “middleman” and even fry cook when SpongeBob injured his thumbs. Patrick doesn’t have a steady job, but that’s no problem for him as he doesn’t need much to survive in the city, as seen by how simple yet functional his house is, but he has had a couple of (short-lived) jobs through the series. Puff has her own boating school, but when it comes to Patrick, it’s unclear what he does for a living and thus how he manages to survive. Krabs is their greedy boss (and Pearl enjoys his money), Sandy is a scientist, and Mrs. Related: SpongeBob SquarePants: Gary & Patrick Are Secretly RelatedĪll the main characters in SpongeBob SquarePants have jobs: SpongeBob and Squidward work at the Krusty Krab, Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants has been around long enough for viewers to know the characters very well, but when it comes to Patrick, there’s one big question still floating in the air: where does he work? Patrick was introduced in the pilot episode and has since appeared in almost every episode of the series, as well as the movies, video games, and other media. SpongeBob SquarePants follows the daily adventures of the title character and his best friends from the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, most notably Patrick Star, who also happens to be his (and Squidward’s) neighbor. Patrick Star is known not only for being SpongeBob’s best friend but also because he’s very lazy – so what does he do for a living? Created by marine science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants made its official debut on Nickelodeon in July 1999 and has since become the most successful Nicktoon to date, as well as one of the longest-running American animated series.
